KMUD’s new Community Resources and Calendar page is now live on the KMUD website, wordpress-1438018-5376424.cloudwaysapps.com, under the COMMUNITY dropdown menu. Our improved calendar provides up to date information for farmers markets, food distributions, public meals, blood drives and other community services. This public calendar allows our community members to better plan their days; providers can share and sync their organization’s google calendar. Moving forward, we will continue to add events and information that benefit our community.

Tuesday morning, CalTrans is still reporting a Full Road Closure on State Rt. 36  From 0.6 mi West of Devils Elbow Picnic Area to Devils Elbow Picnic Area due to Emergency Work.

The Shelter Cove  Farmers Market is open today from 11 to 3pm as well as the Fortuna Farmers’ Market from 3 until 6pm

In Humboldt, Food for People is hosting a food distribution in McKinleyville from 10 until 3:00pm, Eureka from 10am until 3:45pm, and in Garberville from 10:30 until noon.The Mobile Produce Pantry is at the Trinidad Library at 380 Janis Court from 10am until noon. 

The AHHA Care-A-Van is in Eureka at the Samoa Boat Launch, under the Samoa Bridge, until 2pm today. The AHHA Care-A-Van is a three bathroom trailer with showers. They distribute clothing, food, and hygiene supplies and help individuals connect with services.

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at Ferndale Fire Department at 436 Brown Street from 4 until 7:30pm.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:Unfortunately, the recent federal budget cuts that have been impacting the Mendo Food Network and Fort Bragg Food Bank continue to affect their ability to maintain their programs. Effective in June, they will no longer be holding two pop-ups a month in Willits. They will continue their 1st Thursday pop-up in Willits, but will NO LONGER have a 3rd Thursday pop-up. The KMUD Community Resource Calendar has been updated. 

In Mendocino, the Ukiah Community Food Bank will be open from 9 until noon; the Mendocino Community Pantry  from 1:30 until 3pm, the Comptshe Food Pantry from 2 until 4pm, and the Leggett PopUp is taking place at 65100 Drive Thru Tree Road from noon until 1pm. .  

(No need to read the following lunch announcements at 3pm.)  Lunches are provided for seniors at the Willits Senior Center from 11:45 until 1:00pm, the Redwood Coast Seniors Center in Fort Bragg from 11:30 until 1:15pm. Plowshares Peace and Justice Center in Ukiah provides a hot meal weekdays from 11:30 until noon. 

Meals are provided at Willits Daily Bread from 4:30 to 5:30pm and at the Mendocino Coast Hospitality House in Fort Bragg Monday through Friday at 3pm. 

The Southern Humboldt Wildland Fire Preparedness Drill will take place this Sunday, June 8th, at the Community Park off Sprowel Creek Road near Garberville. Around 150 participants, including over 100 local volunteer firefighters, are expected. Numerous fire apparatus from various agencies will be present, so expect significant traffic impacts in the area.

This annual refresher training (RT-130) includes ICS (Incident Command System) operations, radio communication, fireline construction, progressive hose lays and fire shelter deployment. Most importantly, it brings together diverse fire agencies and builds the working cohesion essential for effective emergency response in our region.

Reminder, burn permits are required for ALL open burning. Burn hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Burn piles are limited to 4’ x 4’, unless otherwise stated by a fire agency. You can only burn vegetative matter. 

Today, Tuesday, June 3rd, is a permissive burn day in Humboldt, Mendocino, Del Norte, and Trinity counties. 

As of May 1st, , the CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit requires both Standard and Non-Standard Burn Permit holders in State Responsibility Areas, to also obtain a CAL FIRE Burn Permit. A North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQMD) burn permit is still required year-round and contains the permittee’s designated burn zone.
