Community Safety & Awareness Report – March 5, 2025
As of this morning, Route 36 is open to one-way traffic control, but drivers should use caution as conditions remain unstable. Overnight, a large redwood tree and debris covered both lanes of the highway, forcing officials to delay the planned reopening. Crews had initially hoped to allow one-way traffic early this morning with short delays, but due to ongoing slide activity, motorists should now expect wait times of up to an hour. Humboldt County’s 2nd District Supervisor, Michelle Bushnell, reports that crews are actively working near Grizzly Creek, but the hillside remains very unstable. The road could close again at any time. If you’re traveling in the area, be prepared for long waits and possible last-minute closures.
