Eureka City Council Tabled the Vote on it’s Homeless Camping and Sleeping Ordinance

The Eureka City Council works to balance the concerns and complaints that arise from an ever expanding homeless population, while ensuring the human rights and dignity of homeless individuals are upheld.

Tuesday night, the council held a hearing on an ordinance that would make sitting, sleeping or lying in public spaces a misdemeanor with LEAD-Law Enforcement Advised Diversion. The ordinance is aimed to provide assistance, but it was met with concerns from several council members and a significant number of residents.
