Eureka High School was placed on lockdown today after a new threat was reported to school administrators, marking the second security incident in as many days. According to the Eureka Police Department (EPD) during the lockdown, there was no evidence of an immediate danger on campus, but the lockdown was initiated as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

EPD officers responded swiftly and secured the campus while investigating the nature and credibility of the threat. During the lockdown, the public was asked to avoid coming to the school to allow law enforcement to focus on their investigation. EPD assured worried parents that the students were safe during the lockdown.

This incident follows a similar event that occurred yesterday, during which a bomb threat led to the evacuation of the school. That situation saw a large response from law enforcement, including a bomb squad, and resulted in one student being detained. After a thorough investigation, the buildings were cleared, and no explosives were found.

Eureka Police Public Information Officer Laura Montagna has reassured the public that today’s lockdown is being handled with the same level of caution, and updates will be provided as the situation develops. The police department has advised the community to follow their social media accounts for real-time information.

By 2:41 p.m., the EPD announced that the lockdown had been lifted, thanking the community for their patience and cooperation.

This series of threats has understandably caused concern among parents and community members. KMUD News will continue to monitor this situation as it develops.
