Fire Crews Pour Toward Los Angeles’s Urban Firestorm

Los Angeles County is facing a firestorm event, with three major fires burning across the area. These include the Eaton Fire, which had scorched 11,000 acres just north of Pasadena; the Hurst Fire, burning 700 acres on the north end of the San Fernando Valley; and the 16,000 acre Palisades Fire near the coast, south of Topanga and on the north western edge of Santa Monica

The Palisades Fire was nearly 16,000 acres with zero percent containment as of news time. The fire began Tuesday morning, It has caused nearly genasys evacuation 20 zones to be under evacuation orders, Evacuation orders extend from Mulholland Drive on the northeast through the Topanga Canyon community and State Park down to Hollywood Boulevard and the northern edge of Santa Monica, as well as along the PCH from Malibu to Santa Monica

Fires exhibited extreme behavior, including both short and long-range spotting, fueled by winds gusting up to 60 mph. Those winds are expected to persist through Thursday. Los Angeles County fire crews battled the blaze under critical fire conditions for 24 hours without respite. Today, North Coast crews are heading down to provide additional mutual aid.
