Fortuna City Councilmember Resigns Amid FBI Investigation into Theft and Embezzlement

Fortuna City Councilmember Kris Mobley has reportedly resigned amid an ongoing FBI investigation into alleged embezzlement.

Fortuna Police Chief Casey Day told KMUD News’ Lisa Music the following information:

“The City of Fortuna is aware of an ongoing FBI investigation involving Kris Mobley, a sitting member of the Fortuna City Council. While the city remains committed to transparency, it is important to emphasize that this investigation is being conducted solely under the jurisdiction of the FBI. It is our current understanding that the alleged conduct under investigation pertains solely to Councilmember Mobley’s private conduct and does not involve city business. To ensure the investigation remains thorough and impartial, we are not in a position to comment further.

We ask for the community’s patience and understanding as the FBI continues its work. All inquiries regarding this investigation should be directed to the FBI field office. Any members of the public who have relevant information are encouraged to contact the appropriate authorities through official channels. For any further inquiries, please contact the FBI’s Public Affairs Office.”

Chief Day further confirmed that Mobley officially tendered her written resignation from the council, effective immediately.
