Garberville Veterans to Host Free Thanksgiving Feast at Mateel Community Center: Over 400 Pounds of Turkey to Be Served

The Garberville Veterans Association will be hosting its annual free Thanksgiving community meal at the Mateel Community Center in Redway, CA on Thursday, November 28th starting at noon.

The event, which has been a tradition for over four decades, is open to the public and will feature a full Thanksgiving feast including turkey, ham, potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, and more. The association has partnered with Diestel Farms to provide 460 pounds of turkey for the meal.

“We served our country, but part of our oath was to serve the community as well. So that’s what I’m doing – serving the community, everyone, rich or poor” said Tom Pietila  of the Garberville Veterans Association.

The meal is free for all attendees, and the veterans association encourages those who are homebound or have mobility challenges to request meal deliveries by calling 707-499-3931. Seniors and disabled individuals will be served first.

Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving morning to help with food preparation, serving, and cleanup. Those interested in volunteering can show up at the Mateel Community Center starting at 9am on November 28th.

“There’s no reason to stay home alone and not have a good feast for Thanksgiving,” added Pietila. “So just show up here from noon on and just have a good meal.”

The Garberville Veterans Association Thanksgiving event is a longstanding tradition that brings the community together for a free holiday meal. All are welcome to attend and enjoy the feast and camaraderie.
