Humboldt County Law Enforcement Round-up

We begin tonight with updates from Humboldt County law enforcement, where three separate incidents this past weekend resulted in multiple arrests, highlighting ongoing efforts to address crime in the region.

On Friday evening, December 20th, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a disturbance in Fields Landing involving screaming and honking from a vehicle. Deputies determined that 39-year-old Sara Maltzman had stolen a vehicle from the 6800 block of Harrison Avenue.

Maltzman was located driving the stolen vehicle a short distance away before fleeing into a nearby residence. Deputies followed, eventually taking her into custody. A search revealed live ammunition in Maltzman’s possession, which she is prohibited from carrying due to a restraining order.

She now faces charges including vehicle theft, resisting arrest, and violating a protective order.

Later that same night, a routine bicycle traffic stop in Eureka led to a significant drug and firearm seizure. A deputy stopped 24-year-old Steven Waggoner of Blue Lake for riding a bicycle without lights or reflectors.

A search revealed methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, a revolver, and ammunition in Waggoner’s possession. He now faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a controlled substance while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of probation.

And on Saturday, December 21st, a traffic stop by the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) near Loleta resulted in the arrests of 43-year-old William Pree and 48-year-old Josephine Daniels, both from Antioch.

Agents discovered over 450 Xanax bars, half a pound of cocaine, two loaded firearms—one modified for automatic fire—high-capacity magazines, and ammunition in their vehicle. Two juveniles traveling with them were safely placed in protective care.

Pree and Daniels face a long list of charges, including narcotics trafficking, possession of an assault weapon, and felony child endangerment.

Authorities urge anyone with information on these cases to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office or the Drug Task Force. The Sheriff’s Office Tip Line is (707) 268-2539 or contact the Drug Task Force at (707) 267-9976
