Humboldt County OES on Earthquake Recovery and Preparedness Efforts

Our region is no stranger to natural hazards, with earthquakes being one of the most frequent and impactful. Just over a week ago, Humboldt County experienced a magnitude 7 earthquake, sparking discussions about preparedness, emergency response, and recovery funding. While the physical damage wasn’t as extensive as one might expect for a quake of this magnitude, it revealed ongoing challenges in our ability to respond effectively and secure necessary resources for recovery.
Humboldt County officials continue to assess damages, encouraging businesses and individuals affected by the earthquake to fill out the 2024 December Earthquake Damage Form. This documentation is critical for evaluating the extent of the impact and determining what funding opportunities may be available for recovery.
