Highway 36 between Carlotta and Bridgeville, east of Devil’s Elbow, remains closed as Caltrans crews made progress on slide debris removal during the break in the weather today. District 1 representative, Manny Machado told KMUD News that the closure would stay in place until sometime tomorrow. However, delays are expected if the roadway is reopened and the instability of the area means the roadway may close at any time due to slide activity.

Additionally, the Humboldt County Roads Division announced that roadwork is underway on Redwood House Road that runs adjacent to Highway 36, connecting east of Carlotta and at Bridgeville. In the construction area, one way controlled traffic is implemented and motorists can anticipate up to 30 minute wait times during work hours which was scheduled for Thursday & Friday, March 6th & 7th, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

County officials are asking motorists to use caution and reduce their speed for road crew worker safety.
