Willits has a new mayor, though he’s no stranger to the region. Retired Mendocino County Sheriff—and former Humboldt County resident deputy—Tom Allman was elected by fellow councilmembers to serve as mayor for the remainder of the year.
At a Willits City Council meeting in late April, outgoing Mayor Larry Stranske announced he would step down due to health reasons, though he will remain on the council.
Allman, elected to the council in 2024, has long been an advocate for public safety and small business. He now turns his focus to Willits’ ongoing financial concerns, emphasizing the need to grow local revenue and expand economic development.
KZYX’s Jenn Procacci spoke with Mayor Allman about the city’s budget, economic growth strategies, and even fireworks—as top challenges facing Willits.
