Protect Medicaid!Call Congress Now to Say No to Cuts!
Congressional leaders are pushing forward a dangerous budget proposal that would slash over a trillion dollars in funding for Medicaid and other programs—putting the health and well-being of millions of older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income families at risk. A vote could happen as soon as next week—URGENT ACTION is needed NOW to protect Medicaid!
Republicans marked up a budget resolution that would require drastic cuts to Medicaid. Specifically the resolution directs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over Medicaid, to cut a minimum of $880 billion in federal spending. This can only be done by cutting Medicaid. It would also require huge cuts to the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), making it harder for older adults and families meet their basic needs in food costs.
Medicaid is a lifeline for over 7 million older adults and 12 million people with Medicare who rely on it for essential health and long-term care needs. Without it, many older adults would have no way to afford the home-based and nursing facility care they require, nor would they be able to afford Medicare’s high out-of-pocket costs.
This budget would gut Medicaid to fund tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy—while leaving millions of Americans struggling to access the care they need. Cutting Medicaid would also devastate state budgets, threaten rural hospitals and increase medical debt for families already facing economic uncertainty.
