Southern Humboldt’s Veterinary Crisis Reflects a National Trend

Southern Humboldt has been without local veterinary service for 15 months. All this time, residents in the area have had to go to Willits or Fortuna to seek medical care for their animals. This is a part of a nation-wide pattern. All over the country, rural areas are seeing their vets quit or retire, unable to find replacements to take over their practices.

This story is an excerpt from a half hour special dedicated to the the rural vets issue nation, state and county wide in a Public Affairs special airing on KMUD on Tuesday July 1at at 5:30PM. The special will be accessible for streaming on KMUD.org for two weeks after airtime and will also be available on favorite podcast platform.
