Ukiah Man Dies Following Medical Emergency at Mendocino County Jail

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of an individual who died following a medical emergency at the county jail last month. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Issa Niambele of Ukiah.

On October 29th, at approximately 8:30 PM, a Corrections Deputy conducting a routine safety check in the jail’s main building found Niambele and another inmate lying on the floor of their holding cell. While both initially appeared to be asleep, Niambele was later found unresponsive.

Emergency protocols were immediately initiated. Jail medical staff and personnel from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator in an effort to revive him. Niambele briefly regained a pulse and was transported to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Emergency Department, where further lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead in the early hours of October 30th.

An autopsy has been performed, but the official cause and manner of death are still pending toxicology results. Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Coroner’s Unit are continuing their investigations under the Mendocino County Fatal Incident Protocol.
