● North Coast Small Business Development Center is a nonprofit that helps you profit.

any other business need — SBDC is your one-stop-shop for accelerating small business
success. With educational workshops and trainings we spread best practices and ensure
our local business community is up to date on the latest innovations. As a client you will
also receive one-on-one advising and mentorship, tapping into a large network of
business experts.
● And now we are located at the new formed StartUp Humboldt Innovation Hub. StartUp
Humboldt brings together a powerhouse of organizations—including Cal Poly Humboldt,
College of the Redwoods, Institute for Entrepreneurship Education, the North Coast &
NorCal Small Business Development Centers, and Lost Coast Ventures—to support and
grow our region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

  1. Start Smart Business Bootcamp
    ○ May 2, 9:30-4pm
    ○ 883 W Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531
    ○ Room 29 at College of the Redwoods Del Norte Campus
    ○ Partnering with Yurok Economic Development Corp.
    ○ In this workshop you will:
    i. Leave with a draft of your business plan
    ii. Receive a list of all the licensing steps required in your municipality or
    county
    iii. Learn about the business structures that best suits your needs
    iv. Run a “living wage estimator” to know what the business will need in
    revenue in order to make you self-sufficient
    v. Create a draft of startup costs
    vi. Complete a customer profile and draft of a marketing plan
    vii. Learn the financial documents needed to manage your business and
    eventually apply for startup capital or equity investment

  1. Forest Entrepreneurship two-day workshop
    ○ May 3-4th
    ○ 8:30-4pm
    ○ StartUp Humboldt Innovation Hub @ 876 7th Street, Arcata
    ○ What to Expect:
    i. Learn about New Business models emerging in BioMass Energy
    Generation, Mass-timber Markets and Fire hardening and suppression.
    ii. Learn best practices in starting and growing a Forestry related business

iii. Draft a business plan and marketing plan
iv. Learn bookkeeping and financial management strategies for success.
v. Network with business advisors and other business owners

  1. AWESome Business Model Competition

○ AWESome Business Model Competition has teamed up with StartUp Humboldt
to offer more than a pitch competition. It is an immersive program providing
mentorship with experienced business advisors, workshops on all aspects of the
startup life-cycle, rigorous pitch practices, award money and on-ramps to other
business competitions – all building to more and more access to angel and
venture capital. And, through the Norcal SBDC network there is an onramp to the
Pitch Competition World Cup, offering $1Million in first place prize money.

○ StartUP Humboldt is a collaboration between Cal Poly Humboldt, College of the
Redwoods, Norcal Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, North
Coast SBDC and Lost Coast Ventures, located at the StartUp Humboldt
Innovation Hub in Arcata, CA. Our Mission is to cultivate an entrepreneurial
ecosystem that fosters scalable ventures, rooted in the Northcoast.
