SYNOPSIS: A cold front is moving in this afternoon, bringing rain to Del Norte County around mid-afternoon and spreading quickly to Lake County by early evening. Coastal areas may see up to an inch of rain, with heavier amounts in the mountains and lighter rain inland. Snow is possible at higher elevations, starting as low as 2,000–3,000 feet in some areas, with 3 to 5 inches expected in the mountains. Gusty winds of 20-30 mph are likely along exposed coasts and high peaks late in the day.

TODAY: 

Inland: A 30 percent chance of rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Along the Coast: A 50 percent chance of rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South wind around 9 mph. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Rain. Steady temperature around 51. Breezy, with a south wind 8 to 17 mph becoming west southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Along the Coast: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Calm wind becoming south southeast 5 to 9 mph in the evening.

Extended Forecast: Expect showers Thursday, mainly in the northern areas, with snow levels dropping to around 4,000 feet. Another storm system will arrive Friday, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong winds. Rainfall could total 2 to 4 inches by Saturday, causing minor flooding in some areas. Snow levels may dip as low as 2,500 feet in eastern Trinity County, with over a foot of snow possible in higher elevations. Sunday will offer a brief break with lighter showers before a new weather system arrives Monday, bringing more rain, wind, and snow, although it may not be as intense as Friday’s storm.
