Weather & Tide Report – December 16, 2024

SYNOPSIS: Expect light to moderate rain and gusty south winds throughout the day, tapering off by evening. Higher elevations, particularly in Trinity County, may see additional snowfall above 3,000 feet, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible. Winds could gust up to 45 mph in exposed areas, especially midday. Rainfall totals will range from 0.2 to 0.4 inches in most places, with lighter amounts further south and east.

Extended Forecast: Calmer and drier weather is on the way midweek as a high-pressure system moves in, bringing warmer temperatures. By Wednesday, highs in interior areas could reach near 60°F, although mornings may stay cool with fog likely forming in valleys. Another storm system is expected to arrive this weekend, bringing significant rain—potentially 2 to 7 inches, depending on location—and gusty winds, especially in northern Mendocino County. Snow will be limited to elevations above 4,000 feet, so highway impacts from snow are unlikely. Wet and unsettled conditions could persist through Christmas.
