WARNINGS:  Along the coast, a high surf advisory is in effect until noon today. 

SYNOPSIS: Heavy rain has been soaking the area overnight, with totals between 2 and 4 inches. The heaviest rain will taper off by noon, but scattered heavy showers could pop up through the afternoon. Expect a brief break in the rain by this evening, though a few light showers might linger along the coast.

TODAY: 

Inland: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers. High near 53. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Along the Coast: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers. High near 55. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: A 20 percent chance of showers before 10pm. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Calm wind.

Along the Coast: A 20 percent chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. North wind around 6 mph becoming southeast in the evening.

Extended Forecast: More rain is on the way through the weekend as a series of powerful atmospheric river storms rolls in. Wednesday will bring lighter rain and patches of fog inland, but strong winds will pick up by nightfall, with gusts up to 50 mph in some areas. By Thursday, thunderstorms might form near the coast as rain and wind intensify. The heaviest rain and highest flood risk are expected over the weekend, especially on Sunday, though the exact extent of flooding remains uncertain. Conditions should finally ease up by Monday as the weather pattern shifts.
