SYNOPSIS: Expect cool and dry conditions throughout the day. Skies will stay mostly clear along the coast, while some low clouds and fog have settled in over interior valleys. High clouds will start moving in later, and there’s a slight chance of drizzle in southern Mendocino County or a light dusting of snow in the mountains of southern Lake County tonight.
TODAY:
Inland: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. North wind around 6 mph.
Along the Coast: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. North northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Calm wind.
Along the Coast: Patchy fog before 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.
Extended Forecast: The dry weather will continue through most of Wednesday, but a storm system is approaching. By Wednesday afternoon, winds will shift to the south and pick up speed, with gusts up to 40 mph along coastal headlands and ridges early Thursday. Rain will spread across the region on Thursday, with heavier amounts expected in Mendocino and Lake counties, where 2 to 3 inches are possible. Some urban and small stream flooding could occur, especially in Lake County. Snow levels will start low, around 2500 feet in Lake County and possibly as low as 1500 feet in Trinity County, bringing significant snowfall to higher elevations, including major highways. By Friday, drier weather is expected, but another storm may bring more rain to Humboldt and Del Norte counties late Sunday or Monday.
