SYNOPSIS: Expect rain to start this evening as a weather system moves in, bringing gusty winds and wet conditions. Higher elevations, especially in Trinity County, will see heavy snow. Winds could reach up to 50 mph in the mountains, but lower elevations will experience milder gusts.

TODAY: 

Inland: Increasing clouds, with a high near 55. Light south wind.

Along the Coast: Increasing clouds, with a high near 53. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Rain, mainly after 7pm. Low around 40. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Along the Coast: Rain, mainly after 10pm. Low around 39. Breezy, with a southeast wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Extended Forecast: Rain and wind will continue through Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall in Mendocino and Lake counties, where localized flooding is possible. Snow levels in Trinity County will start low, potentially impacting highways with 2 to 5 inches of snow, but will rise by Thursday night. A brief break in the weather is expected Friday afternoon and Saturday, offering some dry conditions. However, another round of rain is forecast to return on Sunday, bringing steady but manageable rainfall, mainly to the northern areas.
