ADVISORY: High surf advisory in effect for the coastal areas beginning tonight at 6 pm until 2pm on Friday, February 14.
SYNOPSIS: Expect moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the day, with the heaviest rain in the morning and scattered showers continuing into the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph in some areas, particularly in Lake County and along the coast. Higher elevations in Trinity County saw snow overnight, but warming temperatures will push snow levels above 3,500 feet by this evening. There is a slight risk of localized flooding in urban areas and small streams, especially in southern Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties.

Along the Coast: Rain. High near 53. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Rain. Low around 42. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Rain. Low around 42. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: The rain will taper off by Friday afternoon, though scattered showers may linger. Gusty winds will continue today but should weaken overnight. Snow levels, which dropped to around 2,000 feet in Trinity County, will rise above 3,500 feet later today, limiting further snow accumulation to higher peaks. Saturday will bring a break in the wet weather, offering dry conditions before another storm system moves in Sunday into early next week. This next system is expected to bring more rain, though it is currently predicted to be weaker than today’s storm. The heaviest impacts will likely be in the northern part of the region.
