ADVISORIES: A wind advisory is in effect for the coastal region until 3pm this afternoon and until 4 pm for the inland region.
A high surf advisory will be in effect from 4 pm until 10 am on Tuesday, February 25.
SYNOPSIS: A powerful storm system is bringing strong winds and rain to Northern California today. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph in Del Norte County and up to 40 mph in parts of Humboldt, making driving difficult and possibly knocking down tree branches. There’s also a chance of thunderstorms, mainly in Del Norte County, especially this afternoon.
TODAY:
Inland: Showers, mainly after 10am. High near 59. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers. High near 59. Windy, with a south southwest wind 24 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Showers likely, mainly before 10pm. Areas of fog after 1am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 41. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. South wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: The strong winds will gradually die down tonight as the storm moves away. By Tuesday night, offshore winds and high pressure will bring dry and warmer conditions. Expect much warmer-than-usual temperatures from Wednesday through the end of the week. However, another weather system may approach California around Thursday, possibly bringing more rain and wind, though it’s uncertain how much it will affect Northern California.
