Weather & Tide Report – February 3, 2025

SYNOPSIS: Rain will continue today, with the possibility of low-elevation snow as colder air moves in. A second round of rain is expected later today through midweek, which could increase the chances of snow and mixed precipitation. The Eel River at Fernbridge may reach minor flood stage tonight through Tuesday.

TODAY: 

Inland: Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog before 10am. High near 50. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Along the Coast: Showers. High near 45. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Showers, mainly before 10pm. Low around 36. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. North wind 3 to 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Extended Forecast: A cold air mass moving in will push snow levels lower, possibly down to 1,500 feet by Tuesday morning, with freezing temperatures affecting coastal and inland areas. Highways 299, 199, and 3 could see heavy snow impacts, with up to 24 inches expected at Scott Mountain and a few inches at lower elevations like Berry Summit. Another round of snow showers is expected Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing 2 to 4 inches along Highway 36 and continuing to affect mountain passes. By Wednesday, the Humboldt and Del Norte coasts could also see small hail as temperatures drop into the 30s. Snow and rain will persist through the week, with moderate snow possible down to 2,000 feet by early Thursday.
