SYNOPSIS: Rain has slowed down in the northern areas, with rivers rising and falling in response to recent rainfall. The biggest concern today is for flood advisories along the Russian River and Mad River, which have already peaked or are still rising. Overall, the weather is cold and wintry with rain easing up in most places.
TODAY:
Inland: Showers. High near 43. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Along the Coast: A chance of rain and snow showers before 10am, then rain showers. High near 44. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Rain showers likely before 7pm, then rain and snow showers likely after 4am. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Along the Coast: A chance of showers before 7pm, then showers after 10pm. Patchy fog before 10pm. Low around 32. Calm wind becoming south southeast 5 to 8 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: Rainfall will continue to ease as moisture moving into the area decreases, but heavier rain could hit Mendocino and Lake counties again later today, bringing 1 to 4 inches more of rain. Rivers like the Eel River may continue to rise, with some spots expected to dip below flood stage later today. Tonight, there could be light rain and small hail along the northern coast as temperatures drop further. Freezing levels will lower, creating a mix of rain and snow showers across the region. Expect cold, wet weather through the week with more disturbances ahead.
