Weather & Tide Report – January 30, 2025

SYNOPSIS: It’s dry for most of the day, but late tonight, rain will start to move in and continue through the weekend. Winds will pick up along the coast and in the mountains, especially in Del Norte and Humboldt counties. While rain is expected later, it will be a calm start to the day.

TODAY:

Inland: Increasing clouds, with a high near 54. South southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Along the Coast: A 30 percent chance of showers after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

TONIGHT:

Inland: Showers, mainly after 10pm. Low around 42. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: Showers, mainly after 10pm. Low around 42. Windy, with a south southeast wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible

Extended Forecast: Starting late tonight and continuing through Friday night, the region will experience a period of rain, with some areas getting over an inch of rain, especially in the mountains. Winds will be gusty, particularly along coastal ridges and mountain tops. A winter storm watch is in effect for parts of Trinity County, where snow is expected at lower elevations and in the mountains, potentially affecting highways. The weekend will see another system arriving, and there’s a lot of uncertainty about how heavy the rain will be. If the atmospheric river hits our region directly, heavy rain could lead to localized flooding. However, there’s also a chance it will move farther south, bringing less rain to the area. Snow levels in the mountains could drop, making conditions tricky for travelers.
