SYNOPSIS: Expect rain and gusty winds throughout the day, but both will calm down by evening. Rainfall has been heavier in Del Norte County, with lighter amounts further south. Snow is limited to the highest elevations in the Trinity Alps.
TODAY:
Inland: Showers. High near 53. South wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers, mainly before 4pm. High near 54. Windy, with a south wind 14 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Showers. Low around 46. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers, mainly after 10pm. Low around 43. South southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: After a break in the rain Saturday afternoon and evening, more showers will arrive, continuing into early next week. Snow levels will stay above 5,000 feet through Saturday, except in parts of the Trinity Alps, where they could drop to 2,500 feet overnight, bringing several inches of snow to higher elevations. By Sunday night, much colder air could push snow levels down to as low as 1,000–2,000 feet, possibly affecting mountain passes along Highways 101, 199, 299, 3, 36, and 20. There’s also a chance of small hail along the coast, especially late Sunday. Rain showers are expected to persist through much of next week, with a possible dry spell around February 5.
