Extended Forecast: Expect a stretch of dry and warmer weather through the weekend, with cool nights and pleasantly warm afternoons. Some inland areas even have a good chance of reaching the low 70s. By midweek, rain will return, with a strong storm system bringing steady rainfall and potentially heavy snow above 2,000 feet. Rainfall totals could reach 2 to 5 inches, with the heaviest amounts expected in southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino Counties, which may cause minor flooding in low-lying areas. Gusty winds are also expected, especially in higher elevations, with some ridges potentially seeing gusts over 55 mph. Travel through mountain passes, like Berry Summit on Highway 299, could be tricky by Wednesday due to snowfall, with up to a foot of snow possible in some areas.
