SYNOPSIS: Expect some light showers this morning, mainly in Del Norte County. Southerly winds will pick up this afternoon and get stronger tonight, bringing gusts up to 45 mph along the coast and even higher gusts on ridges.
TODAY:
Inland: Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 63. Calm wind.
Along the Coast: A 40 percent chance of rain, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind 3 to 8 mph.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Rain, mainly after 4am. Low around 43. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Rain, mainly after 1am. Low around 48. South southeast wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: A powerful storm will arrive overnight into Wednesday, bringing strong winds, moderate to heavy rain, and even some thunderstorms. Del Norte and the King Range could see gusts up to 70 mph on the highest peaks, with lower areas expecting gusts around 45-55 mph. Rainfall will be heaviest in the King Range and Del Norte County, where 3.5 to 4 inches could fall by Thursday, causing potential minor flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Lower elevations may see 1-2.5 inches, while Southern Mendocino and Lake counties will get up to 0.6 inches. The North Coast has a slight chance for severe storms, including waterspouts along the coast. Snow levels will drop to 4,000 feet, affecting higher passes, and even cooler temperatures and more rain or snow are possible through the weekend.
