SYNOPSIS: Today, expect strong winds and moderate to heavy rain across the region as a cold front moves in. Some areas may see brief, intense rain and even a few thunderstorms. Winds are gusty but should ease by afternoon, with minor flooding possible in spots with poor drainage.

Inland: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 1pm. High near 61. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Rain before 10am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 10am. High near 59. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Areas of fog after 4am. Low around 43. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Along the Coast: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 45. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Extended Forecast: This week, a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and mountain snow will dominate the forecast as a cold front sweeps through. By Thursday, thunderstorms are likely to increase, especially along the coast, with a slight chance of waterspouts near the King Range. Mountain snow is expected in northeast Trinity County, with up to 8 inches in higher elevations, so caution is advised for travelers. Temperatures will drop significantly behind the front, bringing a cooler end to the week. Another weaker front may pass through this weekend, with snow levels possibly dipping as low as 3,500 feet.
