SYNOPSIS: Scattered showers will continue along the coast today, primarily north of Cape Mendocino. Snow levels, currently around 2,500 feet, will rise to 3,000–3,500 feet by this evening. Showers will taper off late tonight as warmer air moves in ahead of the next storm.
TODAY:
Inland: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Calm wind. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers likely, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. West southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: A slight chance of showers before 10pm, then a chance of rain, mainly after 4am. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Along the Coast: A chance of showers before 10pm, then a chance of rain after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. South southeast wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Extended Forecast: A strong storm system will impact the region Tuesday through the weekend, bringing heavy rain, high winds, and potential flooding. Tuesday night, strong winds with gusts of 60–70 mph may cause downed trees, power outages, and hazardous travel, especially in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Starting Wednesday, prolonged moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in urban areas and along small streams, with larger rivers possibly rising later in the week. In northeastern Trinity County, heavy snow is expected Wednesday, with some areas above 3,000 feet receiving multiple feet of snow. This could severely impact travel on highways such as 3, 36, and 299. Conditions may remain snowy into Thursday in colder areas. Stay alert for updates and prepare for challenging travel and weather disruptions.
