SYNOPSIS: Strong winds will develop this afternoon and evening as a powerful storm system approaches. Gusts of 60–70 mph are expected in exposed coastal areas and ridges, likely causing downed trees, power outages, and challenging travel conditions. Rain will arrive later tonight, becoming steady and moderate.

TODAY: 

Inland: Rain, mainly after 10am. High near 54. Windy, with a south wind 13 to 18 mph increasing to 19 to 24 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: Rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 53. Windy, with a south southeast wind 20 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 43. Windy, with a south southeast wind 29 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Along the Coast: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 46. Very windy, with a south southeast wind 29 to 34 mph decreasing to 23 to 28 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Extended Forecast: An atmospheric river will bring prolonged rain from Wednesday through the weekend, with heavy rainfall at times. Flooding risks will increase Wednesday and Thursday for small streams, urban areas, and eventually major rivers later in the week. Northeastern Trinity County will see heavy snow late tonight into Wednesday, with potential for several feet in higher elevations such as Buckhorn Summit and Oregon Mountain, causing significant travel disruptions. Windy conditions will persist, especially along the Mendocino coast and higher ridges Wednesday morning, although less intense than Tuesday night. Another system later in the week could bring stronger rain rates and additional wind, compounding saturated conditions and making trees more vulnerable to falling. Prepare for challenging weather and monitor for updates.
