SYNOPSIS: A weak cold front may bring some light drizzle to coastal areas this afternoon, but the interior will remain dry with calm conditions. Skies will stay mostly clear inland, with clouds lingering along the coast.

TODAY: 

Inland: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming west northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Along the Coast: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: A chance of drizzle, mainly between 8pm and 11pm. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Along the Coast: A chance of rain before 11pm, then a chance of drizzle, mainly between 11pm and 2am. Patchy dense fog after 8pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Extended Forecast: A stronger cold front will arrive on Wednesday, bringing more clouds and some coastal drizzle, mainly in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Rainfall amounts will be light, with a slight chance of wetting rain reaching as far south as Mendocino County. By Thursday and Friday, cooler and gusty conditions will follow, with the possibility of frost in interior valleys, especially in Trinity County. Winds could reach gusts of 25-35 mph in exposed areas, particularly along the Sacramento and Russian River Valleys. This weekend may see a brief period of high pressure, but rain chances could return early next week, though forecasts remain uncertain.
