SYNOPSIS: Clear and cold conditions overnight have brought down temperatures, with freezing levels in some valley areas. Skies will stay mostly clear today, but be prepared for chilly weather, especially tonight, with potential frost in low-lying areas.
TODAY:
Inland: Sunny, with a high near 69. Light north wind becoming north northwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
Along the Coast: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Calm wind becoming north northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Along the Coast: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm.
Extended Forecast: A quick change is coming midweek as a cold front moves in on Wednesday morning, bringing gusty southerly winds and periods of moderate rain. The strongest winds are expected along the coast and in higher elevations of Humboldt and Del Norte counties, where gusts could reach 30 to 45 mph. Rain will begin early Wednesday, with heavier showers by late morning, potentially accumulating over half an inch by nighttime. Showers will likely continue into Thursday and Friday as the storm system lingers, with the possibility of some snowfall in the mountains of Trinity County as snow levels drop to around 4000-5000 feet.
