SYNOPSIS: Expect gusty southerly winds this afternoon as a weather front moves in, bringing periods of moderate rain. The strongest winds and heaviest rain will be in Del Norte and Humboldt counties, with the rain tapering off in the evening.

Inland: Showers, mainly after 2pm. Patchy fog before 11am. High near 65. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers, mainly after 11am. High near 58. South wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Showers, mainly before 11pm. Patchy fog after 11pm. Low around 38. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers before 11pm, then a chance of showers after 2am. Low around 45. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: Starting this afternoon, rain and gusty conditions will spread across the area, with the heaviest rainfall expected north of Cape Mendocino, particularly along the coast and higher elevations. Del Norte and Humboldt counties could see up to 1.25 inches of rain by Thursday morning, while Mendocino and Lake counties are likely to get lighter amounts. Winds will pick up in the afternoon, with gusts up to 40 mph in higher elevations. This system will continue through Thursday and Friday, keeping showers in the forecast, with additional rainfall potentially totaling 1.5-2.5 inches in Del Norte and Humboldt by Saturday morning. For higher elevations in Trinity County, snow levels could drop as low as 4,500 feet tonight, with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected near 5,000 feet, possibly affecting travel on Scott Mountain Pass.
