SYNOPSIS:  Cooler overnight temperatures with pleasant daytime

highs will continue for the next few days. Strong northerly winds

will ramp up in the afternoons near the coast, starting to weaken by

Wednesday. Unsettled weather with a chance of rain is forecast

Thursday afternoon through Saturday.

TODAY: 

Inland: Sunny, with a high near 72. Light north wind becoming north northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Along the Coast: Sunny, with a high near 59. North northwest wind 5 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. 

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 44. North northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the evening. 

Along the Coast:  Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. North wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Extended Forecast: A mid-level shortwave trough will enhance coastal instability today, bringing gusty offshore winds up to 50 mph and temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to low 80s depending on elevation. Coastal stratus is spreading inland this morning, with improvement expected as northerly winds build through the day. A pattern shift begins Thursday as an upper-level low approaches, bringing cooler temperatures, increased clouds, drizzle, and a slight chance of interior thunderstorms, especially over Trinity County. Rain chances increase Friday, mainly over Del Norte and northern Humboldt, with clearing and colder overnight lows expected by Saturday.
