SYNOPSIS:  An upper level trough approaching the area will bring

cooler temperatures across the interior through Saturday.

There is a slight chance for thunderstorms over the mountains for

the next few days as well as widespread showers in most areas by

Friday. Cool nights and pleasant sunny afternoons will return Sunday

and into next week.

TODAY: 

Inland: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Along the Coast: Cloudy, with a high near 55. West northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 47. Light and variable wind.

Along the Coast:  A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Northwest wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Extended Forecast: A deep upper-level trough is approaching the region, bringing increasing high clouds today and setting the stage for enhanced instability and showers, particularly over interior mountains. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, with modest CAPE and shear suggesting localized convection rather than severe storms. As the trough deepens into a split-flow low by Friday, showers will become more widespread, with continued chances for thunderstorms into Saturday, and cooler highs struggling to reach 60°F. Clearing skies Sunday will lead to a gradual warming trend, with frost possible in interior valleys Sunday night and inland highs reaching near 80°F by midweek.
