NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REPORT
Wednesday, August 20th, 2025
SYNOPSIS: Hot and very dry weather will build in through the week with a shallower and stronger marine layer along the coast. There is very slight potential for thunderstorms over the interior this weekend into early next week.
TODAY:
Inland: Sunny, with a high near 95. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
Along the Coast: Partly sunny, with a high near 66. North northwest wind 3 to 7 mph.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Clear, with a low around 55. North wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Along the Coast: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. North northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Extended Forecast: The past few days have been cooler than normal inland, with some light coastal clouds that cleared easily. That’s about to change as a strong high-pressure system builds in, bringing a significant heat-up by late week. Temperatures inland are expected to soar into the 100–110 °F range Friday and Saturday, which could create moderate to locally major heat risks, especially in valleys. Along the coast, more stubborn clouds are likely to linger, though lighter winds may allow some warmer air to sneak in briefly this weekend.
