SYNOPSIS: Hot and dry conditions will continue to build through the weekend with heat peaking across the interior Sunday. Gusty offshore winds over the higher terrain in Del Norte County Friday and Saturday morning. Breezy northerly winds over the coastal headlands along the North Coast again Friday afternoon.
TODAY:
Inland: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. North wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Along the Coast: Sunny, with a high near 68. Light north northwest wind increasing to 9 to 14 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. North wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Along the Coast: Mostly clear, with a low around 55. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Extended Forecast: A strong high-pressure system is building over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, causing unusually warm and dry weather through the weekend. Winds blowing from east to northeast will be gusty, especially in the hills and higher terrain, which dries out the air and increases fire danger. Temperatures will rise significantly, with coastal highs in the 70s to low 80s and inland valley temperatures reaching or even exceeding 100°F, leading to heat advisories—especially in places like Trinity and interior Humboldt counties. Relief from this heat is expected by Tuesday, when a new weather system brings cooler air and an increased marine influence.
