SYNOPSIS: A fast-moving front offshore this morning is already producing gusty winds, rain, and snow at higher elevations. Wind gusts of 40-42 knots have been reported offshore, with coastal areas likely to see gusts of 50 mph or more. Snow has been observed in areas like Dunsmuir, Grants Pass, and Klamath, with low snow levels expected to persist through the day, especially in Trinity County, where a winter storm warning is in effect above 1500 feet.
TODAY:
Inland: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers likely between 2pm and 5pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Patchy fog before 11am. High near 51. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers between 2pm and 5pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. High near 51. South southeast wind 11 to 15 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers. Patchy fog after 2am. Low around 41. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Along the Coast: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Low around 40. South southwest wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Extended Forecast: A break in the wet weather is expected on Saturday, but another atmospheric river storm will bring moderate to heavy rain and significant high mountain snow later in the weekend, with rising snow levels and possible travel impacts above 4500 feet.
