Summer Solstice

SYNOPSIS: Stronger west and northwest winds expected for the interior through Friday. Much cooler with below normal temperatures for the interior Friday and Saturday.

TODAY: 

Inland:  Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. North northwest wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Along the Coast: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly between 11am and 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Northwest wind around 8 mph.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Increasing clouds, with a low around 46. North northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light northwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Along the Coast: A 20 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. 

Extended Forecast:   Elevated fire weather conditions are expected through Friday evening in Lake, eastern Mendocino, and eastern Trinity Counties due to low humidity and strong west to northwest winds, with Friday likely being the windiest day. Interior temperatures will cool significantly Friday and Saturday, with patchy frost possible in colder valleys, especially in Trinity and northeast Mendocino. Light rain is likely Friday afternoon and evening for Del Norte and northern Humboldt, though totals will be modest and vary by model. A warming and drying trend is expected early to mid next week, with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms over the interior mountains Sunday or Monday.

Today marks the summer solstice for the Northern Hemisphere occurring at 7:41pm PST. This marks the beginning of astronomical summer and is the day with the longest daylight hours in the year. 

The next next high tide will be at 7:25 pm, at 6.3ft. The next low tide will be at 12:46 pm,  at 1.6ft.  The waning crescent moon rose in the east at 1:57 am and will set in the west at 3:44 pm. According to the solunar theory, today is a bad day for fishing, the fish activity forecast is low, however, this is just a chance so we encourage you to take your rod and try it during solunar periods.
