NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REPORT

Thursday, September 18th, 2025

SYNOPSIS: Inland temperatures will cool down Thursday with the arrival of cloudcover and precipitation. Thunderstorm activity is expected Thursday through Saturday. After a short period of drying, rain chances increase again early next week.

TODAY:

Inland: A 20 percent chance of rain after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. North wind 5 to 9 mph.

Along the Coast: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Light north northwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.

TONIGHT:

Inland: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of rain between 11pm and 2am, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Along the Coast: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2am. Patchy dense fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. North northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Extended Forecast: Moisture from a decaying tropical system will move north into the region starting Thursday, bringing increasing clouds and a chance of showers. In meteorology, “decaying” means that a weather system, such as a tropical storm or low-pressure area, is weakening or losing its organization and strength over time. This can mean that its winds, rainfall, or thunderstorms are getting lighter, its central pressure is rising, and its overall effect is diminishing. As the system decays, it may break apart and eventually disappear, leaving behind only remnants like scattered clouds or light rain.

Early in the event, thunderstorms could be drier, creating gusty winds and a fire weather risk. By Friday, moisture will be stronger, lowering the fire risk but raising the chance of heavier showers or isolated flooding issues, especially in areas prone to mudslides. Conditions may gradually improve by Saturday, though sunshine and surface heating could still spark scattered thunderstorms inland.
