Community Safety & Awareness Report-Nov.11, 2025

KMUD’s new Community Resources and Calendar page is now live on the KMUD website, kmud.org/, under the COMMUNITY dropdown menu. Our improved calendar provides addresses, phone numbers and up to date information for farmers markets, food distributions, public meals, blood drives and other community services. 

Provided you have a valid Air Quality burn permit, Tuesday, November 11th, is a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Residents in state responsibility areas must also obtain a Cal Fire burn permit. Please refer to your air quality burn permit for approved burn hours and restrictions. 

During the ongoing government shutdown, many Humboldt County residents are waiting for delayed CalFresh benefits — leaving thousands uncertain about their next meal. Food for People is here for anyone who needs help. Join them for an emergency drive‑thru food distribution on Thursday, November 13th, at College of the Redwoods from 11 to 1 pm and The Hoopa Valley Food Distribution building, 12479 CA-96,  in Hoopa. You’ll find pantry staples, fresh produce, and more — rain or shine, while supplies last. If you can give, your donation helps Food for People meet growing community needs. (In Humboldt, Food for People is hosting food distributions in Garberville from 10:30 until noon.) 

(The Food for People’s Mobile Produce Pantry is in Redway today at the Redway Baptist Church, 1055 Redwood Drive,  from 10:30 until 12:30pm.)

Today, and every Tuesday, between noon and 3 pm, you can recharge at the Redway Baptist Church. For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, warm clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get recharged every Tuesday, that’s today, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. If you have donations of food or warm coats to offer or need additional information call 707-223-1560 

In Mendocino, the Mendocino Food Network is hosting food distributions in (Ukiah from 9 until noon; Mendocino from 1:30 until 3pm; and) Comptsche from 2 until 4pm. 

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at Wings Inflatables, 220 5th St, in Arcata from ten until 3pm and Eureka Community Health & Wellness Center, 2200 Tydd,  from 10 until 4pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net 

(No need to read the following lunch announcements at 3pm.)  Lunches are provided for seniors at the Willits Senior Center from 11:45 until 1:00pm, and the Redwood Coast Seniors Center in Fort Bragg from 11:30 until 1:15pm. Plowshares Peace and Justice Center in Ukiah provides a hot meal weekdays from 11:30 until noon. 

Meals are provided Monday through Friday at Willits Daily Bread from 4:30 to 5:30pm and at the Mendocino Coast Hospitality House in Fort Bragg at 3pm.
