SYNOPSIS: Isolated dry thunderstorms possible in the interior this afternoon and evening. Hot temperatures likely through Wednesday for the interior. Stratus likely for the coastal areas with marginal short-lived clearing in the afternoons for the coming days.
TODAY:
Inland: Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing and hot, with a high near 102. North wind 3 to 8 mph.
Along the Coast: Patchy dense fog before 11am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 68. Calm wind becoming west northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Mostly clear, with a low around 52. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Along the Coast: Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 54. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Extended Forecast: Warm air is moving into the area as a weather system heads north, raising temperatures to about 100°F in inland valleys and strengthening clouds along the coast. Smoke from nearby fires is causing air quality issues, especially in Siskiyou County and along the Klamath River. A disturbance arriving from southern California could bring spotty thunderstorms and strong winds, mainly in higher terrain and Trinity County, but overall chances for storms remain low. By midweek, cooler temperatures will slowly return, with highs dropping into the 80s and 90s inland and 60s on the coast as conditions settle down toward the weekend.
