Extended Forecast: Northern California is expecting an active weather pattern late this week as the first strong atmospheric river of the season moves in from the Pacific. Clearer and milder midweek conditions will give way to clouds and cooler temperatures by Thursday, followed by moderate to heavy rain, mountain snow, and gusty southerly winds starting Friday and continuing into Sunday. The system’s core moisture, driven by a large Aleutian low, will bring the heaviest rainfall to Del Norte, Humboldt, and Trinity counties, where 4–6 inches of rain are forecast and localized flooding is possible. Coastal thunderstorms and snow accumulation above 5,000 feet may occur Saturday into Sunday as a cold trough moves through. While unsettled weather may linger into early next week, impacts like flooding, debris on roads, and possible travel disruptions remain key concerns.
