Extended Forecast: A powerful atmospheric river is set to impact Northern California today through Wednesday, bringing very heavy rain and strong, potentially damaging winds. Flood watches are in effect from the coast through inland valleys due to the risk of rapid stream rises and urban flooding, especially where strong rain bands overlap with high tides and storm surge, which will also lead to the threat of coastal flooding on Wednesday and Thursday. Wind gusts could exceed 50 mph for coastal and ridge areas, with lower elevations facing 35-45 mph gusts, enough to break branches and cause scattered power outages. After a brief break, a weaker but still notable storm is expected Thursday into Friday, bringing more moderate to heavy rain and breezy southerly winds before conditions begin to dry out late Friday into the weekend. Residents across this region should prepare for hazardous travel, possible flooding in both cities and rural locations, and potential wind-related damage during this active storm period.
