KMUD radio has inherited a 20-acre parcel of land in the Laytonville area from former classical music DJ Marian Estella Mapes-Bouck. Mapes-Bouck, who passed away on November 17, 2009, hosted a show on Tuesday mornings from 6 to 9 a.m.

”She listened to KMUD,” Starr says. “KMUD was her source. She wrote little notes to (then music director) Michael Jacinto all the time and then, in December 2006, she got a show. He gave her a show. I came on board in January 2007, so we were both newbies and we became friends. She would always come and visit me after her show. I would take her out on her birthday; she would take me out on my birthday.”
