Classical DJ leaves legacy to KMUD

KMUD radio has inherited a 20-acre parcel of land in the Laytonville area from former classical music DJ Marian Estella Mapes-Bouck. Mapes-Bouck, who passed away on November 17, 2009, hosted a show on Tuesday mornings from 6 to 9 a.m.
Her relationship with KMUD began as a listener, says KMUD manager Brenda Starr.

”She listened to KMUD,” Starr says. “KMUD was her source. She wrote little notes to (then music director) Michael Jacinto all the time and then, in December 2006, she got a show. He gave her a show. I came on board in January 2007, so we were both newbies and we became friends. She would always come and visit me after her show. I would take her out on her birthday; she would take me out on my birthday.”
