Community Safety and Awareness Report for Thursday, May 19th, 2011

•Humboldt Waste Management Authority will host a Hazardous Waste Collection Day from 9am until 2pm this Saturday, May 21st.  Residents can bring up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds to the Caltrans Maintenance Yard in Garberville.  Materials accepted include: wet paint, auto and garden products, cleaners, aerosols, mercury bearing waste, and medical sharps and packaged needles in red biohazard boxes.  No electronics or used oil accepted.  A small disposal fee will be implemented.  For more information, call 441-2005.

•CAL FIRE personnel have begun defensible space inspections of residential properties throughout Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.  CAL FIRE is reminding homeowners to protect their property with defensible space as required by state law by removing dead vegetation 100 feet from all structures.  Remember, defensible space is YOUR responsibility.  For more information, visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov.

•KMUD will host a Board Mixer to recruit new Board and Community Advisory Board Members tonight at 5pm at the KMUD Studios in Redway.  All interested Community Members are invited to attend.

•And the next KMUD Board of Directors Meeting will be held next Tuesday, May 24th at 4pm at the Healy Senior Center in Redway.
