Subject:  POP Search Warrant Nets Two Arrests

On 11/09/10, at about 8:30 AM, officers with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) served a search warrant at a motel in the 4200 block of Broadway, Eureka.  The warrant was obtained in response to on-going information POP had received about subjects selling methamphetamine from their motel room there.

Officers contacted and detained the residents, Douglas Glen Lovell (51 of Eureka) and Samantha Louise Mallett (37 of Eureka), at their room.  During a subsequent search of their motel room, officers located approximately 98 grams (3 ½ ounces gross weight) of processed marijuana for which they did not have a Prop 215 medical marijuana card/recommendation, illegally possessed prescription medications, .22 ammunition, a small quantity of cocaine, and drug use paraphernalia (including meth pipes).  Officers also found a suspected drug sales kit (digital gram scale, packaging materials, measuring spoon) hidden inside a trash can.

Additionally, while officers were conducting their investigation, Lovell’s cell phone rang numerous times.  Officers answered several of these calls acting as Lovell and spoke with subjects attempting to purchase methamphetamine from him.

Lovell was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of prescription medication, possession of over an ounce of marijuana, maintaining a space for purposes of drug use/sales, and unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Mallett was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where she was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of prescription medication, possession of over an ounce of marijuana, and maintaining a space for purposes of drug use/sales.

Anyone with information concerning suspected drug sales activity occurring in Eureka is encouraged to call the Problem Oriented Policing Unit at (707) 441-4373.
