Community Safety and Awareness Report for Monday, December 19th, 2011

•This Tuesday, December 20th, the Mateel Community Center in Redway invites all able-bodied individuals to help in a work party around the grounds of the community center.  Projects will include cleaning the lower parking lot and reorganizing Mateel storage containers.  The work will begin at 10am and end about 2pm, with lunch provided by the Mateel Meal.    For more information contact hall manager, John Jennings, at 923-3368 extension 32, or just show up this Tuesday at 10am ready to work.

•This Holiday Season, Towing Operators Working to Eliminate Drunk Drivers will once again offer assistance to residents in need of a ride.  Now, through 6am on January 1st, drivers who have had too much to drink can call the 24 hour dispatch number at 442-4537 for a free ride home for themselves, AND their vehicle, from locations in Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, and Fortuna.  That’s 442-4537.

•Unique gifting opportunities await you at KMUD’s Redway Studios this Holiday Season.  All of our MUD-ware is priced to move, and we may have just what you’re looking for.  Stop by the Studio Offices, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, to see what we have in stock.  From hats to mugs, aprons to hoodies, and even our signature Tie-dye T’s and tank-tops, we may have that perfect something for your special someone!

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for Democracy in Action with host, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, and her guest, Mary Beth Fielder, with the Los Angeles Move to Amend campaign affiliate. They will discuss the recent resolution adopted by the Los Angeles City Council that declares that corporations are not people and money is not speech. That’s on Democracy in Action, here on KMUD, tonight from 7 to 8pm.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
